Kelly asked Trump if a guy could change his gender. The answer from the former president was a mix of hesitation and vagueness. After a long “ummmmmm,” Trump said, “In my view, you have a man and you have a woman. I think it has something to do with being born.”
He then asked, “Can the man have a baby? No. They’ll find an answer to that, too, at some point.”
The former president was severely criticized by conservatives and Republicans for not providing a clear-cut response in the video, of which has gone viral across social media.
Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida, who is also running for the GOP presidential ticket, said:
“Don’t say that a guy can turn into a woman because that’s not true. Don’t tell me that a man is able to become pregnant, because that’s not true. We won’t build our society on things that aren’t true.”
Trump has spoken out strongly against “gender-affirming care” for children under 18 years old, calling it “the mutilation of children.”
He also said that there are detransitioners who went through these processes as children but later regretted it. After they become older, a lot of these people ask themselves, “Who did such a thing to me? How could you have done this to me?”
