Speaker Johnson Just Gave Dems Everything They Wanted

Speaker Johnson Just Gave Dems Everything They Wanted

If you thought D.C. couldn’t sink any lower, House Speaker Mike Johnson just proved otherwise.

On Tuesday, in a move that can only be described as political malpractice, Johnson abruptly canceled all House votes for the rest of the week. No SAVE Act. No crackdown on rogue judges targeting President Trump. No reversal of Biden’s radical regulations. Just empty chambers, missed opportunities, and a hard-earned win handed to the Left on a silver platter.

Why? Because he lost a floor fight to a group of lawmakers pushing for remote voting privileges—for new parents. That’s right. The People’s House has now become the “Parenthood Palace.”

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) teamed up with Democrat Rep. Brittany Pettersen (D-CO) and steamrolled Johnson’s attempt to block their pet project: allowing lawmakers to vote from the comfort of their living rooms while caring for newborns. With 218 signatures, including 11 Republicans, their discharge petition blew a hole in Johnson’s strategy and forced a procedural nightmare.

Rather than rallying his conference and getting back to work, Johnson did what weak leadership always does—he waved the white flag. He sent Congress home. It was only Tuesday.

The fallout? Catastrophic.

“This means we can’t take any further action on President Trump’s agenda this week,” Johnson admitted on X. “No SAVE Act. No vote to address rogue judges attacking Trump. No votes to repeal Biden regulations.”

But here’s the dirty little secret: that was his choice.

As Punchbowl’s Jake Sherman rightly noted, Johnson could have brought up the SAVE Act without a rule. He could have gone back to the floor. He could have stood tall and led. Instead, he folded—because a few Republicans dared to side with Democrats on a rule vote.

So what did America get? Another week of inaction. Another week where judicial activists are free to keep launching lawfare salvos at Trump. Another week of Biden’s bureaucrats running wild while House Republicans… rest.

This isn’t strategy—it’s surrender.

And conservatives are furious.

“A selfish action by Congress led by @RepLuna,” one voter posted. “I had to go back to work two weeks after my three children because I couldn’t afford to go without food for them. They showed their selfishness.”

Popular conservative commentator “Catturd” hit the nail on the head:

“Another week of Republicans caving to Democrats and getting nothing done to help Trump. The Republican Congress has done exactly ZERO to even pass one of Trump’s executive orders into law, while Trump works 100-hour weeks. Enjoy another week off.”

Political analyst Nick Sortor echoed the frustration:

“REMINDER TO CONGRESS: THIS IS NOT ABOUT YOU. You work for the American people. If you can’t do the job, RESIGN.”

And they’re right. Republicans were sent to Congress with a mandate: defend Trump, secure the border, clean up Biden’s mess, and fight like hell. Instead, we got a proxy voting tantrum, a canceled work week, and a Speaker more interested in appeasement than action.

If Speaker Johnson wants to be taken seriously, he needs to get serious. No more cowering to chaos. No more surrendering Trump’s agenda. And no more treating the American taxpayer like they don’t matter.

The stakes are too high. We don’t need symbolic wins—we need legislation, leadership, and results.
