We’ve learned all about how once-beloved streaming service Netflix has fallen on hard times. It revealed that it lost 200,000 this year, predicting 2 million more to cancel their subscriptions. The liberal-owned company refused to admit the real reason for this massive exodus: increasingly political content offerings.
Instead, Netflix is slashing and burning its own company to save costs. They shut down its animated department, canceling a number of projects. They even axed newly-hired writers for its fan website “Tudum.” But, as it turned out, they fired a number of diversity hires who signed on just months earlier. Now, even the left is ticked off.
According to TechCrunch, the company laid off editorial staff from its in-house publication Tudum only five months after launching the new venture. More than ten writers tweeted about being let go, including an editorial manager. The publication indicated that 25 people in Netflix’s marketing department were affected by the decision…
“It is worth mentioning that Netflix actively recruited Black women and people of color just to lay them off MONTHS later without a second thought,” journalist Monique Judge shared on Twitter. “Don’t brag about being inclusive when you treat your ‘diversity’ hires like they are disposable.” [Source: Daily Wire]
Apparently, Netflix went out of its way to recruit notable culture and entertainment journalists for its new website. They targeted women of color especially, so they could earn their “woke” badge. According to some, they offered huge salaries, for which people “upended their lives” to take these jobs.
Only to get fired a few months in.
The woke left is attacking Netflix, accusing them of taking advantage of people of color. How ironic is that? Netflix alienated as many as 2 million users with its obnoxiously liberal original content. Only to be called out by the left for hurting black people.
There’s a lesson in this, if Netflix (and the rest of woke corporate America) is willing to listen. Companies thrive when they offer goods people are willing to pay for. But when a company takes advantage of customers’ goodwill to push politics, they are only hurting themselves. And, in the biggest twist of all, Netflix is being slammed by the very people they were trying to pander to.
It’s unclear what Netflix’s fate will be. If they do lose 2 million users, all the cuts in the world won’t be enough to save them. Perhaps, if they return to offering content people like, they could turn around this ship.
But what are the odds that will happen?
