Although the campaign of former President Donald Trump moved more slowly than that of President Joe Biden to lay the groundwork, they are now ready to go thanks to a recent infusion of funding.
According to a memo that CBS News was able to get, the Trump campaign intends to open eight offices in Minnesota and eleven in Virginia. It was believed that Biden would win both states in the presidential election, but fresh initiatives could bring them both within Trump’s grasp.
James Blair, the political director for the Trump campaign, stated in the document that these offices will create “at least 12 new avenues to 270.” To win, presidential contenders need to receive 270 electoral votes. Virginia has thirteen electoral votes, whereas Minnesota has ten.
Republicans are beginning to hope for Virginia, according to recent data; polls indicate that Trump is narrowing President Joe Biden’s lead in the state. This is in addition to the state’s well-liked Republican governor and barely Democratic-controlled state legislature.
Additionally, Trump has long harbored fondness for Minnesota and, in 2016, almost lost to former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton by two points. However, the state currently has a Democratic trifecta and hasn’t supported a Republican presidential candidate since President Richard Nixon.
In Minnesota, FiveThirtyEight polling puts Biden ahead by 2.7%, less than the seven-point lead he used to win in 2020.
