The United States House of Representatives impeached DHS Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas on a razor-thin vote of 214-213 for his dismal (non)performance in guarding the southern border. A record amount of illegals crossed the border in Dec. 2023, and many millions more have entered the nation under the Biden administration.
The Senate is likely to take up the topic in February.
Biden reacted out after the action, publishing a furious message on the White House website [bolding mine]:
“History will not be kind to House Republicans for their brazen act of unlawful partisanship, which attacked a respectable public worker in order to play silly political games.” Mayorkas, a Cuban immigrant who arrived in the United States as a political refugee with his family, has spent over two decades serving this country with integrity in public service. From his tenure as a U.S. Attorney in the Justice Department to his current position as Deputy Secretary and Secretary of Homeland Security, he has faithfully supported the rule of law and displayed a strong dedication to the principles that make our country great.”
What absolute nonsense, as Biden himself could remark. Mayorkas has done anything but respect “the rule of law faithfully”; if he had, he most likely would not have been impeached. Also, Biden is the underlying source of the crisis; Mayorkas is simply the fall man. In the first week of Biden’s presidency, he attacked previous President Donald Trump’s initiatives, such as Remain in Mexico and the southern border wall, which were clearly having a good impact.
Biden could reinstate such policies tomorrow, but he does not care.
Also, it is unclear what Biden deems a “blatant act of unlawful partisanship.” I don’t pretend to be a constitutional expert, but I believe the impeachment procedure was built into the great text. Democrats should know; they impeached Trump twice for (pardon me) fabricated allegations.
The President resumed his fury.
“Rather than orchestrating political stunts like these, Republicans who are truly concerned about the border should urge Congress to provide more border resources and improved border security. Unfortunately, the same Republicans who are supporting this false impeachment are rejecting bipartisan border security ideas that Secretary Mayorkas and other people in my administration have worked hard on, reversing years of their own calls to enact tougher border laws.”
Were you able to restrain your laughter when you read this line? “Mayorkas and others in my government have worked hard on improving border security.”
C’mon, dude.
Biden and Mayorkas have purposefully turned the border into a sieve, as is widely known. There’s no other explanation.
