Mitch McConnell, the minority leader in the Senate (R-KY), says nothing in response to President Joe Biden’s remarks that “MAGA Republicans” are a danger to the country.
McConnell has not made any public comments about Biden’s remarks five days after the speech. His staff ignored repeated Breitbart News requests for comments that spanned many days.
Targeting millions of “MAGA Republicans,” Biden said they “represent an extreme that challenges the very roots of our Republic” in his speech on Thursday in front of a red-lit Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The Republican MGA party, he declared, “does not respect the constitution.” They “don’t believe in the rule of law, they don’t acknowledge the will of the people, and they don’t believe in the rule of law.”
He said, “They support authoritarian governments and they stoke the flames of political violence that pose a danger to our individual liberties, the pursuit of justice, the rule of law, and the very spirit of our nation.”
Prior to Biden’s address, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), the House’s equivalent of the Senate’s minority leader, made the following remarks:
“The first thing the President should say when he speaks tonight is to express regret for labeling tens of millions of Americans as fascists. President Biden wants to discuss the character of the country. He will claim that only Democrats are morally superior.”
Following the speech, he and a host of other Republican lawmakers, candidates, and public figures replied to Biden, with many of them highlighting the speech’s mind-blowing language and optics.
While McConnell has not responded to Biden’s address, he was also slow to respond to the FBI’s historic raid on former President Donald J. Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, earlier this month.
The Hill reports that on August 10, a day after declining to comment on the August 8 search and drawing criticism from conservatives, he demanded a “thorough and rapid explanation” of the incident.
He said, “Attorney General Garland and the Justice Department should have given answers to the American people and must do so quickly.”
The host of Fox News’ Ingraham Angle, Laura Ingraham, called McConnell’s statement “Limp & Late.”
Even disgraced former governor Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) stated concerns about the raid by the next morning while he waited days to comment on the matter.
