Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) as well as Governor Ron DeSantis (R) of Florida were urged to back Donald Trump’s bid for the presidency in 2024 by Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz (R).
In a speech this Saturday during a Trump rally held in Waco, Texas, Gaetz made the remark. The congressman attributed Trump’s support for DeSantis and Cruz as nominees in their respective elections for their respective victories.
“The only person who could have saved us from Hillary Clinton is Donald Trump.” Gaetz made reference to the tight campaign between DeSantis and Gillum, who was soon after implicated in several scandals. “My governor today probably would be Andrew Gillum without Trump holding three rallies in the last week of the 2018 election in Florida,” Gaetz stated. “How strange is that? And if Trump hadn’t propelled Ted Cruz to victory, your senator likely would be beta-Beto.”
“So Ted Cruz and Ron DeSantis, patriots in the MAGA movement, came through for you in your hour of need,” Gaetz said. “As we were so delighted to stand with them, Ron DeSantis as well as Ted Cruz should now support Donald Trump as the next president and stand with us.”
DeSantis has not declared his intention to run for president in 2024, despite this action being eagerly awaited. While the nation waits for a decision, Trump has stepped up his criticism of the governor of Florida, openly dubbing him “Ron DeSanctimonious.”
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) made it clear to reporters in Feb. of this year that he intends to run for another term in the U.S. Senate, ruling out a rematch with Trump in the Republican primary.
