According to Axios, Vice President Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) have only been in eight interviews between them since entering the race in July. This is the “least number of interviews by a major party presidential candidate in modern U.S. history.”
Harris has been running for office for 62 days and Walz for 48 days, but Axios noted that neither has been on more than 5 interviews:
Harris: 4
Walz: 4
The press has not been able to reach Harris in particular. Harris avoids questions and often gives hazy answers in talks.
When people in the crowd asked Harris about her plan to lower rising costs during her most recent talk with Oprah Winfrey on Friday, she didn’t just give them a list.
Harris’s answer was 90 words long and had two lines that started with bland phrases about the “American Dream.” She said that under the Biden-Harris government, the American Dream is out of reach for “so many recently.”
When asked what she would do about the open southern border, Harris went on and on for about three minutes, saying 441 words that didn’t answer the question. Oprah stepped in to stop Harris from using too many words.
“To answer Justin’s question, will you bring that bill up again now that it has been seen and not passed?” Oprah checked in.
Yes, Harris said. “When I become President of the United States, I will make sure that bill gets to my desk and I will sign it into law.”
Harris seemed to use the same plan when she talked to CNN, ABC, and the National Association of Black Journalists.
The Harris campaign wants to do more interviews in the future, possibly with CBS News’s 60 Minutes, according to the New York Times. However, the Harris campaign would rather have talks with hosts who don’t press Harris on her record.
The establishment media got wind of Harris’s refusal to give details about policy in all of her talks.
For example, CNN’s Stephen Collinson wrote a story with the title “Some unsure voters say they want more details from Harris. Harris either refused or was unable to spell out a complete plan for exactly what she would do as the 47th president,” he said. He also said that Harris “mostly stuck to broad themes and headlines.”
