Hacksaw Jim Duggan Faces Intruder, Refuses to Back Down

When you live out in the country, you expect peace and quiet. You don’t expect someone to break through your front door. But that’s exactly what happened to wrestling legend “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan in South Carolina. And let me tell you, that intruder picked the wrong house.

Duggan, now 68, is no stranger to physical confrontation. He made his name in the WWE, winning the first-ever Royal Rumble and becoming a U.S. heavyweight champion. But recently, those wrestling instincts came in handy not in a ring, but in his own home.

It was just a normal night. Duggan was watching TV. His wife was baking. They live way off the main road, down a dirt path. The kind of place you’d think is safe from trouble. But then, out of nowhere, someone started pounding on their front door. Not just knocking—banging hard enough to break the glass and stumble inside.

Now, most folks would panic. But Duggan didn’t flinch. He ran to the front foyer and saw the man had tripped and fallen. Before he could make sense of things, the man started yelling, “Help me, help me.” It wasn’t your typical break-in. This guy seemed scared, like he was running from something worse.

Still, Duggan didn’t take any chances. He threw the man out onto the porch and went straight for his gun—a .44 Magnum. That’s right, the same kind of hand cannon made famous by Dirty Harry. Duggan said he kept it close, just in case more intruders were on the way.

Turns out, that might not have been far off. Duggan heard voices outside, people shouting threats like “We’re gonna get you.” It looked like whoever this man was, he was running for his life. Duggan didn’t know if the guy was trouble or if he’d brought trouble with him. But what he did know was that his job was to protect his wife and his home.

While Duggan held the man at gunpoint, his wife called 911. The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Department responded quickly and got the situation under control. No one got hurt. No shots were fired. The intruder was taken into custody, and Duggan’s home was safe once again.

Now, here’s the important part. Duggan had every reason to be afraid. It was dark, isolated, and he didn’t know how many people were out there. But he stayed calm. He used his training, both from wrestling and from life, to respond the right way. He didn’t overreact. He didn’t shoot first and ask questions later. He protected his family and even ended up protecting the man who broke into his home.

This is why the Second Amendment matters. Duggan wasn’t in a big city with police a block away. He was on his own. And like a lot of us veterans know, when seconds count, the authorities are still minutes away. That .44 Magnum wasn’t just a decoration. It was the equalizer that kept him and his wife safe.

Jim Duggan may be a retired wrestler, but that night he showed he’s still a warrior. He stayed sharp. He kept his cool. And he made sure no one got hurt. It’s a reminder that personal defense isn’t just about having the right gear—it’s about having the right mindset.

This story could have ended much worse. But thanks to Duggan’s quick thinking, level head, and his right to bear arms, it ended the way we all hope it would: with the good guys safe and the danger under control.

So here’s to “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan. A real American. A true defender. And proof that just because you’re retired doesn’t mean you’re not ready. Hooo!
