How bad is the crime wave happening in major cities across America? Well, homicide rates increased by 30% last year. Already this year, they’ve jumped up an additional 24 percent.
In large, most Democrat-run cities, you can count on an increase in violent crime, burglary, car-jackings, and other sprees. The major factor to this spike in crime? Policies passed by lawmakers that reward criminals and make it harder for cops to do their job.
Particularly destructive has been the defund the police movement. We can’t say why Democrats would be so stupid to attack the one group sworn to protect the public. But they are. And new reports suggest it’s much worse than we think, with cops leaving in droves.
“New York City saw 2,600 officers retire in 2020 compared with 1,509 the year before,” The New York Times reported. “Resignations in Seattle increased to 123 from 34 and retirements to 96 from 43. Minneapolis, which had 912 uniformed officers in May 2019, is now down to 699. At the same time, many cities are contending with a rise in shootings and homicides.”
“Over the past year, Democrats’ sustained movement to defund, dismantle, and demonize our cops is taking a toll on our communities,” [Republican Kevin] McCarthy said. “It has manifested in the crime crisis our nation faces today, yet President Biden remains soft on crime and silent on Democrats’ radical policies.” [Source: Daily Wire]
This isn’t just some Republican talking point designed to hurt Democrats. The facts are proving that the “defund movement” has demoralized police, as the media paints them as Enemy Number One. There has been a 5% decrease in police hiring rates over the last year. The largest cities have seen a 36% decrease in hirings. On top of that, record numbers of police are resigning, with a 45% increase in retirements.
A survey done to investigate police morale was dismal. Cops reported that officers are experiencing fatigue and depression. They are worried about their futures and the future of policing. As officers resign, there is no one to replace them. Even in communities that support their police, the national attack on cops is felt. Police officers are looking to other careers. They no longer want to serve for 30 to 40 years.
This is a major epidemic. The MSM has done an amazing job slandering our brave men and women in uniform. They have so effectively branded cops as the villains, that even in good towns, cops are resigning. Police are getting tired of being called monsters and are looking for ways out.
And there is a lack of young, fresh recruits to take their place. Younger generations have been brainwashed into thinking cops are part of the problem. Why would they sign up to become one?
The left’s agenda to destroy law and order is working. As police numbers dwindle, criminals will become more and more bold. Nothing will stop them from turning safe, prosperous communities into warzones riddled with violence and poverty.
Perhaps that’s why Democrats have doing it in the first place? After all, you can’t push socialism in places where the people happy and safe.
