The situation at the border has gotten so bad that leaders on both the left and the right have criticized the Biden administration for not doing anything about it. As the number of illegal immigrants and refugee seekers keeps growing, more and more news stories have come out about the ongoing fight between Texas Governor Greg Abbott and President Biden over immigration.
A story from earlier this week said that the White House is thinking about letting illegal immigrant families wait until they get their asylum screenings in Texas. The plan is to keep track of these people by putting GPS tracking devices on their ankles.
By putting this method in place, it should be easy to keep track of people who want to come into the country. If a family or person didn’t pass their screening, they would already be located close to the southern border, making it easy to send them away.
“It’s usually harder to catch migrant families in the middle of the U.S. because it takes a lot of complicated planning to catch children and their parents. Historically, fewer families have been deported than single people seeking shelter in the U.S.”
Governor Abbott was not fond of this notion; he has been transporting busloads of undocumented immigrants and asylum seekers into blue cities whose mayors have declared them to be safe havens. He replied that if the government did something like that, Texas would send even more busloads to blue states and towns.
“In response to the Biden administration’s purported plan to retain migrants in Texas, Texas Governor Greg Abbott this week pledged he was going to send ‘even a lot more buses’ of immigrants to cities, such as Washington, D.C. This came at the same time that the administration was coming under pressure regarding migrant flow from left-wing officials in places like New York City.”
“Biden is thinking about making migrant families stay in Texas. This scam was attempted years ago, and a judge shut it down,” Abbott said on X, which used to be called Twitter. “We will do the same thing quickly to Biden.”
“And we’ll send a greater number of buses of immigrants to Washington, D.C.,” he stated.
There’s a lot more to this issue than just policy arguments, of course. Texas happened to be considered one of the states most affected by the border issue, and it has taken in a lot of people who are trying to get into the United States. Abbott has consistently been one of the most vocal people criticizing the White House for not handling the problem in a good way. New York City Mayor Eric Adams has joined him. His city has brought in tens of thousands of illegal aliens and refuge seekers from Texas and other places. He warned about what would happen if the situation went on, saying that his city could potentially be “destroyed” by it.
