A Former Trump Campaign Official Sued the DOJ for What Obama Did to Him And Won

Remember Carter Page? The guy the entire federal intelligence apparatus called a Russian spy, surveilled with secret warrants, and dragged through the mud on every cable news network in America? Turns out he wasn’t a Russian spy. He was an American citizen. And now the Department of Justice is settling his lawsuit because — whoopsie — they violated his constitutional rights using fabricated opposition research paid for by Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

Another day, another “conspiracy theory” that turned out to be a documented fact with a settlement check attached.

Let’s walk through this one more time for the people in the back. In 2016, the FBI went to a secret court — the FISA court, where there’s no defense attorney and no public scrutiny — and got permission to wiretap Carter Page, a former Trump campaign advisor. Their justification? The Steele dossier. A document funded by the Clinton campaign and the DNC, assembled by a former British spy using Russian sources, and so riddled with fabrications that even the FBI’s own people knew it was garbage.

They used it anyway.

They renewed the warrants multiple times. They kept spying. And the entire time, Carter Page was just… a guy. A Naval Academy graduate. A businessman. Never charged with a single crime. Not one. Zero. The man they told America was a Kremlin agent was never even accused of jaywalking.

But for years, his name was toxic. CNN and MSNBC ran his face on screen like he was on the FBI’s Most Wanted list. Democratic congressmen went on TV and all but called him a traitor. His life was turned upside down — all because the Democrats needed a story to explain why Hillary lost, and Carter Page happened to be standing in the wrong place at the wrong time.

So he sued. And now the DOJ has settled.

A DOJ spokesman put it in terms that should make every American sit up straight: “No American should ever face covert and unlawful surveillance based on their political view. The investigation into Carter Page — a man never charged with a single crime — relied on inherently flawed and uncorroborated information, proving it was a political sham from the get-go.”

Read that again. The Department of Justice just called its own investigation a “political sham.” Not Republicans. Not Fox News. The DOJ itself.

This is the Russiagate reckoning that keeps rolling downhill, and every time a new domino falls, we get another receipt proving what we’ve been saying since 2016: the whole thing was a setup. They spied on a presidential campaign using opposition research laundered through the intelligence community. They weaponized the FBI and the FISA court to go after political opponents. And when they got caught, they spent four years screaming “RUSSIA!” loud enough to drown out the evidence.

Well, the screaming is over and the evidence is still here.

Carter Page spent years with his reputation in shreds. He lost business opportunities. He became a household name for all the wrong reasons. Every late-night host made jokes. Every blue-check journalist treated him like a confirmed enemy of the state. And the entire time — the ENTIRE time — he was innocent. Not “probably innocent.” Not “technically not guilty.” Innocent. Full stop.

Now the government is writing him a check. We don’t know the amount yet, but honestly? Whatever it is, it’s not enough. You can’t put a dollar figure on having the full weight of the United States government turned against you because you volunteered for the wrong presidential campaign.

But we’ll take it. Because every settlement, every declassified document, every fired prosecutor, every Inspector General report adds another brick to the wall of proof that Russiagate was the biggest political scandal of our lifetime. Not Watergate. Not Iran-Contra. Russiagate. A sitting administration weaponized the intelligence community against a political opponent, and they almost got away with it.

Almost.

So here’s to you, Carter Page. They called you a spy. They wiretapped your phone. They wrecked your life on national television. And now the same government that did it is admitting — with their checkbook — that they were wrong.

The receipts don’t lie. And they just keep coming.
