Trump and Putin Meeting Yields Surprising Results in Alaska

President Donald Trump just wrapped up a major meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The two leaders met in Alaska to talk about ending the war between Russia and Ukraine. According to U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, the meeting was a big success. Witkoff said it was better than anyone expected and called the outcome “epic.”

As a veteran, I know that war is not something to take lightly. Every day a war drags on, more lives are lost—soldiers and civilians alike. That’s why peace, if done right, is always worth fighting for. And from what we’re seeing, Trump is doing it the right way. He’s not giving in to Putin, and he’s not letting Russia off the hook. Instead, he’s using strong leadership and tough negotiations to get real results.

At the summit, Trump and Putin agreed on stronger security guarantees. That means Russia has made promises not to grab more land from Ukraine after a peace deal is signed. Trump is also pushing for laws to lock these promises in, so they can’t be broken easily. That’s the kind of hard-nosed, no-nonsense deal-making you get from a man who puts America and its allies first.

Some critics, like the Wall Street Journal, say the meeting just made Putin look good and gave him more time to keep attacking Ukraine. But Witkoff says that’s not true. He says the U.S. got more from Russia than anyone thought was possible. To put it simply: we pushed them farther than they wanted to go, and we did it without giving up our values.

Now, President Trump isn’t wasting any time. He’s already planning the next big step. On Monday, he’s inviting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and several European leaders to the White House. They’re going to talk about what Ukraine needs to feel safe after the war. That means weapons, training, and promises of support from the U.S. and Europe.

This is smart. Trump knows that real peace doesn’t just happen with a handshake. You have to make sure the people on the ground—especially Ukraine—have what they need to stand strong. That includes making sure Russia knows there will be serious consequences if they break their word.

And let’s not forget, Trump has already warned Russia. If they don’t agree to a final deal soon, he’s ready to hit them with 100% secondary tariffs. That’s a financial hammer that will hit their economy hard. It’s another example of Trump using American strength—not weakness—to keep the peace.

The goal here is clear: stop the bloodshed, protect Ukraine’s borders, and make sure this war doesn’t drag on for years like so many others. As someone who’s seen what war does up close, I can tell you this is the kind of leadership our troops and our allies need.

Trump isn’t playing politics. He’s thinking like a commander-in-chief should—putting lives first while keeping our enemies in check. This isn’t about giving anyone a free pass. It’s about ending a war and making sure it doesn’t start up again.

Peace through strength. That’s what this is. And it’s working.

So while the media keeps spinning, and the critics keep complaining, the results speak for themselves. Trump is doing what others failed to do—bringing real change to a battlefield that’s caused too much pain for too long. And he’s doing it the way a leader should: with grit, backbone, and a clear mission.

Our troops deserve that kind of leadership. So do our allies. And right now, that’s exactly what they’re getting.
