On Saturday, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) stated that when Republicans regain power of the House in 2023, he will remove Omar from her committee assignment. “We witnessed antisemitism develop, not only on our campuses, but in the corridors of Congress,” he stated during an address to the Republican Jewish Coalition’s leadership gathering.
“As speaker, I promised you last year that she would no longer be on Foreign Affairs, and I’m following that commitment,” he continued.
The Democrat stated in a tweet before joining Congress that Israel had “hypnotized the globe,” and after being elected, she introduced a resolution in the House comparing boycotting Israel to boycotting the Nazis.
Rep. Greene was demoted from her committee assignment last year after comparing vaccine mandates to Nazi Germany’s persecution of Jews. “Vaccinated personnel receive a vaccination logo, just as the Nazis forced Jews to wear a gold star,” she explained.
Greene’s committee assignments were stripped by Democrats due to this and previous comments she made before running for office. The move was heavily criticized because these situations are generally handled by the guilty lawmaker’s party.
McCarthy has stated that if he is elected Speaker of the House, he will restore Greene to her job.
What’s good for the goose is good for the gander, as the saying goes. Greene’s comments, which were clearly foolish, infuriated the left. But the notion that Democrats would punish her when they have people like Rep. Omar and others in their ranks who have frequently made anti-Jewish slurs was the height of hypocrisy.
I previously urged that House Republicans should do the same with Omar and other members of “The Squad” who have made such remarks while serving in Congress. The only way to deter Democrats from engaging in this politically driven activity is to demonstrate that their constituents will not be spared when they are no longer in power. Perhaps this is only the beginning.
