DOJ Threatens WAR – Red State In Their Sights

Iowa’s Attorney General Brenna Bird and Governor Kim Reynolds received a letter on Thursday from a “senior official” at the US Department of Justice (DOJ) threatening legal action against the state over new immigration legislation. Iowa’s approach has essentially been to inform the DOJ that they would not follow through.

“A top Department of Justice official wrote to Governor Kim Reynolds and AG Brenna Bird on Thursday, stating that the DOJ will sue Iowa to stop a new immigration legislation that criminalizes “illegal reentry” if it continues in effect. The Des Moines Register obtained a letter from Principal Deputy Assistant AG Brian Boynton, stating that the department “intends to pursue litigation to uphold the supremacy of federal law and to stop” the recently approved Senate File 2340 immigration statute. Boynton said, “SF 2340 is unconstitutional and in violation of federal law.” He gave the state until May 7th to halt the law’s implementation before the DOJ takes any further action.”

The Republican governor outlined the rationale behind the legislation’s passage in Iowa and declared that it will remain in effect: Reynolds countered that the Biden administration’s appalling record on immigration was the reason Iowa needed the measure. Reynolds told the Register in a statement, “The Biden administration’s refusal to enforce the laws already in place is the sole reason we had to enact this statute.” “It is my responsibility to safeguard Iowans. We will uphold and respect the law, unlike the federal government.”

The Republican attorney general of Iowa answered promptly and forcefully:

“In a statement, the AG said that “Iowa will not back down.” Bird stated, “Not only has Joe Biden refused to protect our border and police federal immigration laws, but he is now threatening to prevent states like Iowa from implementing our own laws.” We are sending a clear message to Biden: Iowa will not remain silent and allow our state’s security to be at risk. “If he does not want to stop the border incursion and protect our towns, Iowa will handle Biden’s job.”

Essentially, Iowa is directing the Justice Department as to where to go. The Biden administration is making every effort not to take illegal immigration seriously, despite the fact that it is one of the country’s most pressing issues. The only exception to this is when they attack Japan, the United States’ strongest partner in the Pacific, over the same issue.

I am familiar with the Iowans. Iowa is where I was raised. Since the middle of the 19th century, my family has resided and operated farms in Iowa on both sides. Now, two of our four children reside in Iowa. Individuals from Iowa are generally straightforward and capable of assessing a situation, determining the necessary course of action, and carrying it out. As several states have done before them, the Iowa state legislature and Governor Reynolds have undoubtedly done that by filling in for the Biden administration when it refuses to perform its duty.

If the federal government were to implement the current federal immigration rules, none of this would be a problem or necessary. Only the Biden administration’s strategy of not enforcing the laws accounts for their lack of enforcement. The Constitution specifies that the Executive will enforce the law. The Biden team has not succeeded.

And now, a number of governments have intervened on their own initiative due to frustration.

The outcome of these legal proceedings will be fascinating to watch, as well as how it will influence the election in November.
