Civil War Blame Game – Who Struck First?

Alejandro Mayorkas, the secretary of homeland security, said on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday that Texas governor Greg Abbott (R) was deliberately “trying to cause havoc in other cities and states around the country.”

Dana Bash, the anchor, stated, “I want you to hear what Texas Governor Greg Abbott told me on the show about the question of whether legislation is necessary or not. Listen carefully.

“The truth of the issue is that there are laws on the books approved by the United States Congress right now that empower the executive branch to prohibit unlawful entrance,” Abbott stated. No new laws are required for the president. To ensure that he follows through on his promise to enforce the existing immigration rules, the president has to have some backbone.

Mayorkas said, “It is impossible to be more incorrect. In actuality, the attempt to seal the border by former President Trump was blocked by the courts and never carried out.

He went on, “This is coming from someone who is deliberately attempting to cause chaos in other states and localities throughout the nation and refusing to cooperate, coordinate, or speak with other officials.” He could not be more wrong, and that is not a model of governing.

“We met an unprecedented number of individuals at the southern border in December 2023,” Mayorkas continued. Mexico had taken control of its enforcement activities, and its enforcement organization lacked funding. President Biden communicated with Mexican President López Obrador, emphasizing the necessity of resuming enforcement.

He then sent me and Secretary Blinken to speak with our colleagues in Mexico to reiterate that crucial point. Mexico did, and the country’s population fell by more than half in January of this year. We can thus take certain actions.
