The saga of Ian Michael Roberts has been a delightful one to follow. The Roberts story is an amazing illustration of just how many of our institutions in America are broken and ridiculous, from immigration enforcement to schoolteacher background checks. Despite being an illegal alien fraudster from Guyana who had been on a 25-year crime spree in the US while avoiding deportation orders, Roberts somehow managed to get hired as the high-ranking superintendent of the Des Moines, IA, public schools. Roberts finally pleaded guilty to federal gun and fraud charges this week.
Roberts originally came to the US in 1994 on a B-2 non-immigrant visa, classified as a visitor for pleasure. He departed after that trip and then snuck back into the country illegally in 1995. The year after that, he was arrested for narcotics trafficking.
He fled the country to avoid a prison sentence over the charges. He was also in possession of a firearm at the time of that arrest, so he was facing a long time behind bars. Despite being a fugitive facing drug trafficking and weapons charges, Roberts applied for an F-1 student visa in 1999.
And our totally competent federal government granted it to him!
Roberts began attending a college in Baltimore. Despite the fact that he can barely speak legible English, he was hired as a full-time teacher in Baltimore after completing his sophomore year. This opportunity opened the door for Roberts to commit over two decades of immigration and education fraud all across America, even after his visa expired in 2003.
As a wanted fugitive and an illegal alien with only two years of college under his belt, Roberts was able to secure teaching jobs in the subsequent decades in Baltimore, Oakland, and St. Louis. He put on a suit and tie, and even the school boards in red states swooned and hired him without hesitation.
In 2020, Roberts decided to get into the DEI grift. He appears to have fabricated two doctoral degrees on his resume in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion bullsh*t. That paved the way for him to get hired to serve as the Superintendent of the Millcreek Township School District in Erie, Pennsylvania, for three years.
In addition to his six-figure salary, this incredible grifter cost Millcreek Township another $250,000 to settle a harassment lawsuit that the district’s HR manager filed against him. A white male teacher is also considering an EEOC lawsuit after Roberts demoted him under the new DEI policies he implemented.
In 2023, Roberts was hired as the school superintendent of Des Moines Public Schools. He was specifically hired to implement DEI policies across the school district, which he eagerly set out to do.
In 2024, an immigration judge issued a final deportation order against Roberts. The school superintendent hadn’t shown up for a single adjudication hearing on his case in over 20 years by that point.
ICE called the Des Moines school board that year to inform them that their superintendent was an illegal alien and a wanted fugitive with a final deportation order.
They kept him on the job!
ICE agents had to chase him around in the bushes last September to finally arrest him. He was initially charged with being an illegal alien in possession of a gun (he had a loaded Glock 9mm when they caught him) and felony false statements.
We have so many rhetorical questions!
How did Roberts get a student visa to come attend college in America when he was a fugitive wanted on drug trafficking charges? How did a guy who didn’t even have a bachelor’s degree get hired as a public schoolteacher in three different states, and a school superintendent in two different states? With that track record, how did Roberts pass a background check in five different states to be able to work around children?
Is everything in America just layers and layers of fraud to benefit Democrats and foreigners?
The Trump Justice Department gave Roberts a plea deal after his latest arrest. They told him to plead guilty to the gun and false statements charges, or they’d keep adding more charges to the list until he was facing life in prison.
He pleaded guilty on Thursday. Ian Roberts faces 20 years in federal prison on two charges, followed by deportation. He’ll be sentenced in May. Only in America could a story as ridiculous as this happen.
