Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina called Ukraine’s surprise attack on Russia’s Kursk area “smart” and “bold” on August 12, 2024, while visiting Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. Graham has urged the Biden administration to arm Ukraine with the weapons necessary to overwhelm Russia in combat, given the country’s apparent military achievements.

The Kursk region is reportedly under Ukrainian military authority, covering an area of about 1,000 square kilometers.

Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut went with Graham.

What are my thoughts about Kursk? Brave, bright, and exquisite. “Go on,” Graham urged the reporters.

The administration is at the bottom of the list. Give them the tools they require to prevail in the conflict they cannot afford to lose,” he said.

During the meeting with the US senatorial delegation, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed his gratitude to the Biden administration for its backing.

He later said in a post-Zelensky made on X, “We discussed what exactly is needed to bring this conflict to a just finish, including our necessity to utilize long-range weaponry.” This underscores the increasing disregard for the proxy conflict in Ukraine.

Ukraine’s invasion of Russia is a temporary embarrassment since its defense and intelligence systems failed to predict this unexpected onslaught.

The considerably more powerful and superior Russian troops will swiftly undo the Kursk misadventure, making it, at worst, a minor triumph. If anything, it serves as additional justification for Russia’s refusal to engage in negotiations because it is well aware that the US administration is an unreliable party that consistently breaks its word.

In the end, Russia will pursue a more maximalist strategy in which it seizes control of the majority of Eastern Ukraine and demilitarizes the nation, leaving NATO and the rest of the West to administer a rump state in Western Ukraine.

The West might have prevented this awful situation entirely if it had admitted the shortcomings of NATO expansion and refrained from using Ukraine as a scapegoat against Russia. However, we have already reached a point where there is no turning back. And it appears that the Ukrainian state as we know it today will vanish.
