Ron DeSantis, governor of Florida, is a supporter of dispersing federal agencies across the nation to lessen the weight of the federal government in Washington, D.C.
The Republican, that is largely seen as the front-runner for the GOP primary if he runs for president in 2024, gave Salena Zito of the New York Post an insight into his goals for the nation.
DeSantis stated that “a disconnected administrative state that reigns over us and pushes its will on us is the result of too much power having accrued in D.C. While there are many things that must be done to re-constitutionalize govt., distributing federal agencies to various regions of the country would help to mitigate the adverse impacts of this amassing of power,” the author writes.
DeSantis, a former representative from the United States who was easily re-elected as governor of Florida last year, hasn’t formally announced a bid for the presidency, but he is increasingly assuming the role of a national leader in the Republican Party.
DeSantis stated, “I don’t promise something I can’t achieve,” which the media noticed was in reference to his efforts to prevent controversial subjects from being discussed in schools.
DeSantis asserted that “almost every significant institution in our nation is trying to force a ‘progressive’ agenda upon society. Florida works to safeguard its inhabitants’ right to live their lives without this agenda being forced down their throats.”
DeSantis unveiled a “Framework for Freedom Budget” proposal at the beginning of February, saying it would serve as a template for the rest of the nation. The proposal “builds upon Florida’s successes” in areas including the economy, teachers’ and parents’ rights, environmental protection, and preparedness for natural disasters, according to a statement from the governor’s office.
“Florida has outperformed the nation on all fronts because of its emphasis on freedom,” according to DeSantis. “We are adopting freedom first policies through the Framework for Freedom Budget to help Florida workers and their families and to provide a foundation for long-term prosperity. Florida will counteract federal pressure by promoting prudent fiscal measures that retain more money in Floridians’ pockets. In addition to building on the achievements of the last four years, our budget proposal secures Florida’s continued prosperity.”
The publishing of DeSantis’ book, “The Courage to Be Free: Florida’s Blueprint for America’s Survival,” on Feb. 28 is another indication of the governor’s long-term goals.
According to an excerpt from his essay published by the New York Post, “The Florida Blueprint is really a simple formula: be eager to lead, possess the courage of your beliefs, deliver for your voters, and reap the political rewards. This is a plan for the rebirth of America. We’ve proved that it’s possible.”
The former President Trump, who gained the presidency in 2016 on the promise to be the people’s “outsider” as well as “drain the swamp” in D.C., revs up his 2024 reelection campaign, prompting the governor to talk about changing the balance of power in the nation’s capital. Trump has launched some early attacks against DeSantis, including trying out various disparaging monikers, while polls indicate a tight race if DeSantis were to run.
