After four years of the Biden administration embedding diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) into every corner of the federal government, the incoming Trump administration has a monumental task ahead: uproot the woke ideology that Democrats have turned into a bureaucratic monster. From government hiring practices to education policies, President-elect Donald Trump is ready to take on the DEI machine and restore fairness and merit to America.
Biden wasted no time injecting his woke agenda into the federal government. His day-one executive order demanded a “whole-of-government equity agenda,” forcing agencies to conduct equity assessments and adopt DEI principles in hiring and promotions. Training programs promoting concepts like “systemic racism” became mandatory, courtesy of Biden’s June 2021 executive order.
Trump’s approach couldn’t be more different. As law professor Gail Heriot noted, the first step will be rescinding Biden’s executive orders that “embed DEI in every nook and cranny” of the federal government. Trump is expected to reinstate his 2020 executive order banning race and sex stereotyping in federally funded programs, a move Biden reversed on day one.
Legal experts argue that many DEI programs violate anti-discrimination laws already on the books. William Jacobson of Cornell Law School pointed out that federal agencies can enforce existing rules to eliminate DEI practices that discriminate based on race or gender. For example, the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) has already been hit with lawsuits challenging its race-based policies, one of which was declared unconstitutional by a federal judge.
Trump’s strategy will also target DEI programs in education and corporate America. Under Biden, the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) has been slow to act on complaints of race-based discrimination. Trump’s team is expected to prioritize such cases, going after schools and programs that offer race-exclusive scholarships and fellowships. Vice President-elect J.D. Vance has already set the stage with the “Dismantle DEI Act of 2024,” which aims to eliminate federal DEI programs altogether.
DEI isn’t about fairness or inclusion—it’s about pushing a divisive, left-wing agenda that undermines merit and creates more problems than it solves. Trump’s commitment to dismantling this bureaucratic mess will restore sanity to government, education, and the workplace. While Democrats obsess over identity politics, Trump is focused on uniting Americans under the principles of fairness, merit, and opportunity for all. History will remember him as the president who put an end to the woke insanity.
