Yesterday, former President Donald Trump said that he had finally made a deal with the “Radical Left Democrats” for a debate with “Comrade Kamala Harris.” The debate will happen on September 10 on ABC.
Harris first said in late July that she was “ready” to face Trump, but there has been back and forth about the rules of the debate and other issues. Recently, the Harris team tried to change the rules of the debate by asking for mics that weren’t muted. A lot of people thought it was because Harris’s team wanted another “I’m speaking” moment.
According to someone who knows about the talks, “She’s more than happy to have exchanges with him if he tries to stop her. He also seems very upset about her, which makes him prone to angry outbursts and that’s what I think the campaign would want people to hear.”
When the Trump team pushed back, they said that they agreed to the ABC debate on the same terms as the CNN discussion, which meant that the mics would be muted.
“The Harris group asked for a seated discussion with notes and opening comments after agreeing to CNN’s rules.” A top Trump aide, Jason Miller, said, “We said no changes to the agreed upon rules.”
Trump said he won the fight, though, because the rules will be the same as the CNN debate.
“I have come to an understanding with the Radical Left Democrats that we will debate Kamala Harris. There will be a live broadcast on ABC FAKE NEWS, which is by far the worst and most unfair news network in the game, on September 10th, in Pennsylvania,” Donald Trump said on Truth Social.
“The Rules will be the exact same as the last CNN Debate. Everyone seemed to enjoy it, except maybe Crooked Joe Biden. The candidates won’t be able to bring notes or “cheat sheets” to the debate; it will be “stand up,” Trump said.
It was also promised by ABC that the debate would be “fair” and that neither side would be given the questions ahead of time (no Donna Brazile!). He brought up the fact that Harris had turned down a September 4 Fox News discussion. He did say, though, that the date would still be available in case she changed her mind, which she has done with all of her long-held policy views.
