Representative Dan Bishop (R-NC) stated to Breitbart News on SiriusXM this week that this is the week that the House chooses Jim Jordan as Speaker.
Bishop told reporter Matt Boyle, “It’s been a big change in the Republican Conference. The fact that Jim Jordan won the Republican Party nomination is a big step forward.”
“It has been clear to me for a while, and I think it is slowly becoming clear to everyone else as well, that Jim Jordan of Ohio—everyone knows him all across the country; he has been a great fighter for conservative causes—he’s the only person who is capable of bringing together the interests and different parts of the Republican Conference that have been having a hard time coming together and deciding what to do next.”
Bishop agreed that there are holdouts, but he doesn’t think the number is as high as some people or the media have made it seem.
“I believe that’s going to be settled this week in large part, after which we could go to the floor without everybody on board,” he said. This is an important step toward making holdouts happy.
“But to be honest, the conservatives in the Republican Conference will be the ones to fight if there are any left by the time we get to the floor, which is likely to be this week. I believe that will give way.”
“I finally believe we can come to an agreement and have a pretty peaceful Conference. I’m sure that for the rest of this Congress, under Jim’s leadership, we’ll make big steps forward.”
“Anyone who knows Jim knows he is honest. No one has any worries about his honesty. Every other possible candidate has had individuals who doubt whether they’ll do what they say and be honest with the American people as well as the conference members.”
“No one has any doubts about that for Jim. At this point, the only people who will be fighting are those who like drift. They like things the way they are. They’d rather have long-term stagnation, which has made it so that we can’t deal with the huge problems the country is facing.”
Bishop talked about Jordan’s wide reach and said that he had the political instincts to do a good job for the party in moderate areas.
“It is imperative that advancements be made that the American people can understand, without simultaneously demolishing lawmakers residing in Biden districts. They have to be in the Conference, and it has to be easy for us to move around together.”
“Jim is the ideal person to handle all of that. And I believe it has taken a while for everyone to understand this.”
“Only he is capable of getting the 217.”
