Years from now, anthropologists will be studying the question of why elected Republicans and Democrats were so infatuated with Somalis. What was the upside of bringing a population of illiterate Stone Age warring tribes to our country and forcing them into communities like Twin Falls, Idaho, or Lewiston, Maine?
After decades of Americans complaining about how much we’re being enriched by Somalis, the Trump administration is finally paying attention. What they are learning is that these plucky foreigners (who somehow “built Minneapolis”) are committing much more widespread fraud than anyone imagined.
The Department of Homeland Security has discovered that a ring of Somalis began flying out of the country with suitcases full of cash in 2023. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) started flagging the huge bundles of cash in 2023 at John Glenn Columbus International Airport in Ohio. About $136 million was flown from that airport to Minneapolis and then overseas.
In Minneapolis itself, Somalis flew nearly $700 million in cash bundles out of the country in 2024 and 2025. They’re just carrying the cash in their luggage. The money moves from Minneapolis to Amsterdam and then to Dubai, where Homeland Security loses track of the shipments.
It’s legal to carry a bundle of cash in your luggage on an airline flight, although it doesn’t sound very wise. The passenger simply has to check a box on a form to declare the cash. To their credit, TSA officials were suspicious about unintelligible Muslim foreigners flying out of the country with suitcases full of cash.
But when the TSA tried to send it up the chain of command to Joe Biden’s DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, the investigations were stopped. The Biden regime was wildly incurious about why tribal peoples who showed up in the US a few years ago were now fabulously rich and flying suitcases of cash out of the country.
The revelation of these giant cash payments flowing out of the country comes on the heels of the Trump administration surging hundreds of DHS and ICE agents into the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. This week, President Trump revoked Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Somalia. Things have stabilized considerably since Rep. Ilhan Omar’s family was running the country, so there’s no reason for Somali refugees to remain in the US.
There are currently 2,471 Somalis in the US with TPS status. Another 1,383 are in the country with pending TPS applications. They now have until March 17 to leave the US.
The problem, of course, is that this is just a drop in the bucket. Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama brought enough Somalis into the country to double the population of Buffalo, New York. There are an estimated 260,000 of them in America today. Almost all of them have been granted American citizenship, despite the fact that 60% of Somalis can’t even speak English. Doesn’t it feel great when Minnesota Governor Tim Walz tells us that the Somalis are “just as American as you and me?”
That’s the real problem. Hundreds of thousands of these Somalis now have a piece of paper that says they are “American.” They don’t speak English. They have no loyalty to the country. They rip off the taxpayers with fake daycare scams, and don’t even care about America enough to spend the cash here. They’re sending the stolen taxpayer money back home and using it to finance the terrorist Al Shabaab group.
ICE will arrest the handful of Somali illegal aliens in Minneapolis-St. Paul. That’s great. DHS will arrest a bunch of daycare scammers, which must also happen.
But what can the administration do about the remaining hundreds of thousands of Somalis who now have a piece of paper that says they are “Americans?”
Getting rid of them would require denaturalization and stripping them of citizenship. I am 100% in favor of that. If you’ve ever had the misfortune of meeting any of these Somali “Americans,” I’m sure that you are too. But the courts will have a field day with this issue if the Trump administration attempts to strip away their citizenship and kick these people out.
ACLU lawyers will be lining up to provide free legal services to these precious “Americans” who never should have been allowed to come here in the first place.
