According to an Ipsos study, 66 percent of Americans want to remove illegal immigrants. This is one of the main promises President Donald Trump made during his 2024 campaign.
A poll of 1,290 adults taken from September 20th to 22nd shows that 90% of Republicans and 68% of independents back the policy of “deporting aliens who are in the country illegally.” A further 47% of Democrats support the idea.
That strategy on deportations is “strongly” backed by 39% of Americans, including 71% of Republicans and 39% of independents. Only 13% of Democrats agree with it.
The poll also found that 65% of Americans think illegal immigrants are either a major or small threat.
Recent studies by Marist, YouGov, and Harvard-Harris all agree with the Ipsos study. These polls make it clear that most people want to enforce the country’s current border laws, which protect American workers and families from poor immigrants and dishonest companies who hire cheap foreign workers.
In 2024, the polls numbers went up sharply. This was partly because President Donald Trump spoke out against the White House’s plan to bring in about 10 million refugees since 2021.
There are almost as many migrants coming to the U.S. as are being born here, thanks to President Joe Biden’s huge influx. This government-caused population boom has been great for Wall Street and government agencies that fight poverty, but it’s terrible for regular Americans’ wallets, homes, and communities.
The Ipsos poll asked people if they wanted to remove illegals who are “in your neighborhood”. Around 88 percent of Republicans, 66 percent of independents, and 48 percent of Democrats agreed with the goal of deporting people in their own communities.
It’s interesting that the study also asked Americans if they think migrants “who are in the country properly” should be sent back to their home countries.
That unclear phrase seems to include illegal immigrants that Biden’s pro-immigration homeland security chief, Alejandro Mayorkas, is letting stay. Such as many of the Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, are able to stay because Mayorkas, who was born in Cuba, used his agency power to grant them Temporary Protected Status or humanitarian release.
