If there’s one thing history should have taught us by now, it’s this: peace in the Middle East doesn’t come from appeasement, it comes from strength. And right now, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is showing exactly that. With a bold expansion of Israel’s military operations in Gaza, Netanyahu has made it clear: Hamas will not survive this war, and Gaza will never again serve as a launchpad for terrorism.
On Monday, Netanyahu confirmed that Israel’s plan to dismantle Hamas is broader than first reported. The IDF’s campaign will now extend beyond Gaza City to include the central refugee camps and the Muwasi area—territories sheltering more than half a million people. This is not a reckless escalation. It’s a necessary step to finish what Hamas started on October 7th, 2023, when they butchered innocent Israeli civilians in the worst terrorist massacre in the country’s modern history.
Let’s be clear: this is not an occupation. It’s a liberation. “Our goal is not to occupy Gaza, our goal is to free Gaza,” Netanyahu said. And he’s right. Free Gaza—from Hamas. Free it from the terrorist overlords who have used its people as human shields, its hospitals as weapons depots, and its children as cannon fodder in a war they started and cannot win.
Netanyahu’s war cabinet has adopted five clear principles: disarm Hamas, return all hostages, demilitarize the Strip, maintain Israeli security control, and establish a civil administration that excludes both Hamas and the corrupt Palestinian Authority. That’s not conquest. That’s a roadmap to long-term peace.
And unlike past American presidents who tried to “lead from behind,” President Donald Trump understands what’s at stake. Netanyahu confirmed that he spoke directly with Trump and thanked him for America’s “steadfast support.” That kind of leadership matters. Under Trump, Israel has a reliable ally in the White House—one who doesn’t bow to the anti-Israel mob at the U.N. or cave to the leftist elites in Europe.
Contrast that with what we’re seeing from some of America’s so-called “allies.” France, the U.K., Canada, and now Australia are rushing to unilaterally recognize a Palestinian state—at the very moment Hamas is still holding hostages and lobbing rockets at civilians. This isn’t diplomacy. It’s cowardice dressed up as compassion. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese claims that recognizing a Palestinian state is “humanity’s best hope.” No, Prime Minister—it’s humanity’s worst mistake when you do it while terrorists still run part of that future state.
Recognizing Palestinian statehood right now doesn’t bring peace. It rewards terror. And it sends a message that the West is more interested in virtue-signaling than in confronting evil. Even some analysts on the left have warned that legitimizing a Palestinian state while Hamas still has influence will only “complicate future peace efforts.”
Meanwhile, the usual suspects at the U.N.—China and Russia—are crying crocodile tears over “collective punishment” and the “reckless intensification” of hostilities. This is rich coming from regimes that bulldoze human rights in their own countries and bankroll despots worldwide. Israel isn’t targeting civilians. They’re targeting terrorists who’ve embedded themselves among civilians. There’s a world of difference.
Let’s not pretend this war is morally ambiguous. It’s not. Hamas is a genocidal terror organization. They don’t want peace with Israel—they want the eradication of Israel. And Israel, under Netanyahu’s leadership, is doing what any sovereign nation would do in the face of such genocidal hatred: fighting back with everything they’ve got.
This is what real leadership looks like. Netanyahu isn’t waiting for the international community to catch up. He’s acting with clarity, conviction, and courage. And with President Trump standing firmly in Israel’s corner, the Jewish state knows it doesn’t stand alone.
The road ahead won’t be easy. Rooting out Hamas from Gaza’s densely populated areas will take time, sacrifice, and resolve. But the mission is righteous. And if the West has any moral backbone left, it will stand with Israel—not just in words, but in unwavering support.
Because freedom isn’t free. And in Gaza, it’s being bought with blood.
