NDAA 2026: America Gets Tough on China

The new National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for 2026 is making it clear: the United States is done playing games with China. This bill, which gives the Department of War its funding and direction for the year, is a big step in getting serious about protecting American strength, our economy, and our national security.

As a veteran, I’ve seen firsthand how important it is to keep our enemies in check—not just on the battlefield, but in the economic trenches too. China has been slowly and quietly building up its military power, often with help from American dollars. That ends now.

The NDAA includes the Comprehensive Outbound Investment National Security Act, introduced by Rep. Andy Barr of Kentucky. His plan stops American investment money—like your savings, retirement accounts, and business funds—from being sent to Chinese companies that help build up their military. In other words, this bill makes sure we are no longer helping our enemy grow stronger.

Barr said it well: “No more letting American investors unknowingly bankroll China’s military and surveillance state.” That’s the kind of straight talk we need more of in Washington. For too long, China has used our own money against us, buying up farmland near military bases, stealing our technology, and building weapons to threaten us and our allies in the Pacific.

Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina backed up the effort in the Senate. He pushed for parts of the bill that protect military bases from foreign land purchases and make sure our supply chains—especially for weapons, ammo, and key components—don’t rely on a hostile foreign power like China.

This is all part of President Trump’s “Peace Through Strength” approach. The new NDAA includes 15 of Trump’s executive orders. It also removes woke ideology from the Pentagon, secures the border, and works to rebuild our defense industry. That’s the kind of leadership we need to get our military focused back on its mission—defending this country, not pushing political agendas.

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson put it plainly: this NDAA is about restoring the warrior ethos. That means putting warfighters first, giving them the tools, training, and support they need to win. It also means making sure our defense money is spent wisely—on ships, planes, and weapons—not on diversity programs or climate change nonsense.

The bill is huge, over 3,000 pages long, and includes nearly $900 billion in defense spending. But it’s more than just numbers. It’s a clear message: America is back. We’re not going to sit around and let China steal from us, spy on us, or challenge us without consequences.

To my fellow veterans, this is what we fought for. A strong, secure nation that doesn’t bow to foreign threats. To the men and women still wearing the uniform, this bill is for you. It gives you the backing you need to do your job and defend our freedoms.

Congress is expected to pass the NDAA soon, before heading home for Christmas. Good. We don’t have time to waste. China is watching, and so is the rest of the world. This bill shows we mean business.

We’re standing up to our enemies, protecting our economy, and rebuilding our military from the inside out. That’s what leadership looks like. And it’s about time.
