The first polls about how people felt about the presidential debate are in, and Kamala Harris gave such a “great showing”… She didn’t get any new voters.
ABC News, which aired the debate and train wreck, made the poll results sound good:
“Harris seen as debate winner while keeping small lead over Trump: POLL.”
“Taylor Swift’s support for Harris has little effect, the poll found,” which sounds like sad sax music in the subheading.
CNN, believe it or not, pulled back the curtain with a more honest story:
“New poll finds no change in presidential race after debate.”
CNN’s first two lines give away the game: “New polling after the debate from ABC News and Ipson shows Vice President Kamala Harris leading former President Trump among likely voters. The margin in the race has stayed the same since ABC News polls in late August.”
The study found that 52% of likely voters support Harris and 46% support Trump. This is the same difference between the two groups that pollsters found among likely voters from August 23 to 27.
What’s going on? From every point of view, Trump’s worst moment was NOT last week’s discussion. In the polls, why aren’t the American people punishing him more? Why didn’t Harris shoot ahead by about 12 points?
It comes back to the idea of balance. Fairness is something that comes naturally to us.
It might be one of the oldest law known to humans. It’s in the Bible, too: “An eye for an eye.” It’s clear that this debate was not fair. So it is clear to Americans which candidate to support.
