A source says that former President Trump and GOP vice presidential candidate Sen. JD Vance (GOP-OH) have done more than 10x as many interviews as VP Kamala Harris and Democratic vice presidential nominee Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN).
Axios tallied up how many interviews each side has given, and the numbers show a big difference in how ready they are to tell the American people about their plans and positions.
In fact, Axios said that the Harris-Walz campaign is on track to hold fewer interviews and news talks than “any major party in modern history.”
Axios says Harris is avoiding interviews on purpose because they have been where she has had some of her “worst times” as vice president. This is what the report said:
“In short, Harris’ worst times as vice president have been in interviews where she said things that were either too good to be true or not clear enough about important issues. The goal of her effort is to stop more incidents like that.”
The Harris team thinks that she can avoid hard interviews and still win. This is a risky move, though, because polls show that many people don’t know much about either Harris or Walz.
There have been 59 days since Harris became the Democrat’s presidential candidate. In that time, she has only done three interviews, while Trump has done 14. Axios said that during the first few months of the 2020 campaign, even during the pandemic, Biden gave more interviews than she did.
Vance has done 59 interviews since becoming her running mate, while Walz has only done four in the 44 days he has been with her.
According to Axios, Walz’s decision to avoid the media is a change from the past. They said that he used to answer questions from the local press “regularly,” even though he did sometimes make mistakes by lying or exaggerating.
Walz has been under fire since he became Harris’s running mate because he lied for more than ten years about being a former Army command sergeant major when he actually left as a master sergeant. He also said he was “at war,” even though he had never been sent to a battle zone. He has also said things that aren’t true, like that he chose to reenlist after 9/11 instead of retiring.
