Several religious organizations have criticized Kamala Harris for her history of “anti-Catholic intolerance.”
On X, CatholicVote President Brian Burch stated that Kamala Harris “believes that all loyal Catholics should be banned from serving as federal judges” and that she “has a history of anti-Catholic intolerance.”
In 2018, while serving as a congresswoman on the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, Harris gained notoriety for questioning Court nominee Brian C. Buescher about his work in the Catholic philanthropic group Knights of Columbus, raising the possibility that this participation might preclude him from serving as a judge.
When Buescher joined the Knights of Columbus, Harris questioned him about whether he was aware that the organization held “extreme opinions” on marriage and life, like opposition to “a woman’s right to decide” and “marriage equality,” two views that are emblematic of both the Knights and the Catholic Church.
At the time, a lot of people said that the questions were suspiciously like an unlawful religious litmus test since they examined essential Catholic principles rather than “extreme opinions.”
At the time, Kathleen Blomquist, a representative for the Knights of Columbus, criticized Harris’ questioning for their apparent anti-Catholic prejudice.
Blomquist stated, “We are proud of the numerous Catholics who overcame this obstacle to contribute so substantially to our country. Our country’s terrible history of anti-Catholic intolerance contributed to the foundation of the Knights of Columbus.”
The Knights of Columbus is a nonprofit organization that upholds and promotes Catholic values. “We were really sorry to find that one’s dedication to Catholic ideas through their membership in the Knights of Columbus would be considered a disqualifier from public service,” she continued.
Kamala Harris “would be the biggest threat to the free expression of religion than any president in our history, with no near competition,” according to Kenneth Craycraft, a professor of moral theology at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary.
Craycraft stated, “Kamala Harris has not concealed her aim to enact laws that are hostile to the Catholic Church as well as against people, groups, and establishments whose viewpoints, opinions, and practices are in line with the moral doctrine of the Church.”
Bill Donohue, the president of the Catholic League, detailed Harris’s continuous acts that specifically targeted Catholics, particularly in relation to abortion and LGBTQI concerns.
Harris co-sponsored “the worst anti-religious liberty law ever presented, the Equality Act,” according to Donohue, one of her many heinous actions.
Another item she voted against was a law that would “prevent a health care practitioner from neglecting to exert the required degree of care in the instance of a child who survives an abortion,” he said.
Brian Burch wrote, “Since the day she entered public life, Kamala Harris has embodied the egregious ineptitude, corruption, and blatant racism that have come to characterize hard-left politicians.” “She has deliberately singled out pro-life and religious individuals for their convictions and support of the most vulnerable members of our society.”
He said, “Harris has not only labeled Catholic Church doctrine as “extreme” and unsuitable for the federal court, but she has also assisted in leading an administration that aimed to use the government as a weapon against its political rivals.”
