Democrats Turn On Each Other As Illegals Pour In

El Paso’s Democrat mayor defended his city’s decision to transport illegal immigrants 2,200 miles to New York City, claiming the struggling West Texas city is only attempting to help them in reaching their ultimate goal.

Mayor Oscar Leeser stated on ABC’s “This Week” that the migrants are being treated compassionately despite Republican officials, such as Governor Greg Abbott (R-TX), being lambasted by Democrats for sending them to liberal states and towns. According to Leeser, up to 2,000 illegal immigrants enter his city every day.

Leeser, who held the office of mayor from 2013 to 2017 and was re-elected in 2018 remarked, “The people are not coming to El Paso, they’re coming to America. Nobody is sent somewhere they don’t wish to go by us. We make certain that we help them.”

He said, “We load them onto buses with meals, see to it that they reach their destination, and see to it that we always continue to meet and treat people like humans.”

To draw attention to the border issue, Abbott and fellow Republican governors Ron DeSantis of Florida and Doug Ducey of Arizona have begun sending illegal immigrants to blue towns and states. Since President Joe Biden assumed office and rescinded numerous key elements of previous President Donald Trump’s border security policy, an estimated 2 million illegal immigrants have poured into the nation.

Abbott stated last month that “President Joe Biden’s inactivity at our southern border has continued to put the lives of Texans—and the American people—at peril and is overloading our towns. Chicago will join the neighboring sanctuary cities Washington, D.C., and NY City as an additional drop-off destination to continue giving much-needed assistance to our little, overwhelmed border communities.”

According to Abbott’s office, since April, more than 2,100 illegal immigrants have been dumped off in New York and more than 7,700 have been dropped off in Washington. The expected cost of the state’s bus chartering was $12 million.

Democrats have not attacked Leeser despite the fact that they have accused GOP leaders of “human trafficking” over the action. Nearly 30 buses full of undocumented immigrants were brought to New York by Leeser and the Democratically-controlled city council of El Paso in the previous month; they are now requesting payment from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for their expenses.

According to Fox News, the municipal council of El Paso recently authorized a $2 million, 16-month contract to keep busing illegal aliens out of the city.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday that the Biden administration has been busing and flying undocumented immigrants who are awaiting asylum or deportation hearings to sites around the nation for more than a year.

Last week, images shared on Instagram by Regional Border Patrol Chief Gloria Chavez showed up to 1,000 illegal immigrants being forced to squat under an El Paso bridge because federal workers are overburdened with cases.

Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX), whose district includes part of the city, remarked, “We’ve never seen anything like this. It’s a scenario you would see in a developing nation, not on El Paso’s streets.”
