Democrats Reeling After Major Scandal Just Months Before the Midterms

Democrats can’t afford any problems in the run up to this year’s midterm elections. Already they are on the back foot, with polls showing Republicans with a double-digit lead. Americans blame Democrats for rampant inflation, rising gas prices, an open border, and mishandling the COVID pandemic. On top of that, Joe Biden continues to bring in record-low approval numbers, putting the entire party at risk.

The best Democrats have come up with to salvage their chances is spin. They think they just need to change the narrative via the media and the votes will come flooding in. But more and more Democrats are retiring from the House. And it doesn’t look like any liberal candidate has a plan for winning back Americans. Now, they have even more problems to deal with, as a top New York Democrat is busted by the Feds.

New York’s lieutenant governor, Brian Benjamin, was forced to resign after being charged with multiple violations, including bribery…

Republicans are embracing the turnabout, showcasing law-and-order candidates like Congressman Lee Zeldin for governor and former NYPD officer Alison Esposito as the No. 2 on the ticket in New York challenging Democrat Gov. Kathy Hochul and Benjamin in the aftermath of the Andrew Cuomo scandal.

“Governor Hochul’s candidate spent his career breaking the law. Our Republican candidate spent hers bringing lawbreakers to justice,” the New York GOP crowed after Benjamin was arrested Tuesday. [Source: Just the News]

This is a big, glaring mistake by New York’s current Democrat Gov. Kathy Hochul. She came to power, replacing disgraced former Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Yet her very first decision, picking a lieutenant, was a mistake. Voters will force Hochul to explain why she didn’t better vet her righthand man, giving rise to questions about her own integrity.

These are no small charges. Brian Benjamin is being charged with bribery, wire fraud, and conspiracy. He was being investigated even before he was picked by Hochul, something that should have come up while she was considering him. This comes as Americans rapidly sour over a party that has tolerated growing crime.

Remember, these are the same Democrats who demanded we defund police departments just a few years ago. The same Democrats who put criminals on the street, lowering penalties and eliminating bail. All voters are going to see is a party that encourages crime, even among their own ranks.

This is the last thing Democrats need just months before the election. Republicans are already capitalizing on it, using the news to boost their candidates. That, plus New York Democrats’ support for prolonged COVID lockdowns, voters might actually eject these liberals out of office.

In any event, this kind of news will ripple across the entire country, making it harder for Democrats in swing states… perhaps even blue states.
