The furious parents will have to put up with border crossers and illegal immigrants temporarily residing in their children’s public school gyms, according to New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D).
According to Breitbart News, Adams has begun implementing a scheme that transforms a number of public school gymnasiums into migrant places of shelter, possibly housing hundreds of border crossers and illegal immigrants while students are in class.
Parents and kids who were outraged by Adams’ decision to provide free meals to migrants while reducing recess for pupils demonstrated outside several of the schools, including PS 188 in Coney Island as well as PS 17 in Williamsburg, this week.
“Our children deserve to excel academically, but how can they do that if they are constantly concerned with who they are around? We will suffer harm.” One parent stated, “And our teachers are also suffering because they are now in a situation where they can’t even get our kids assistance.”
In a statement, Adams dismissed the objections and essentially informed parents that they would have to live with their children attending a school where illegal immigrants and recently arrived border crossers were present.
“This is one of the last locations we want to look.” Adams told NY1 News that “none of us are happy about having to make such dramatic decisions.”
“Each gym, each of the 20 gyms that we are considering—we haven’t made a decision on all of them yet—are distinct from the real school buildings. They are separate from the academic buildings.”
Adams also cautioned that waves of border crossers and illegal immigrants entering the sanctuary city would have an effect on “every city service” intended for New Yorkers, while he supported that policy.
Adams stated, “We have served as a sanctuary city for more than 40 years, and when you think about the statute that was passed or the agreement that was signed, no one ever imagined having 4,200 individuals arrive in the city in a single week.”
Over 60,000 border crossers and illegal immigrants have been transported by bus to New York City since the spring of 2022, according to Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) as well as other governors. By the middle of next year, it’s anticipated that New Yorkers will have paid $4 billion.
