Left-wing activist groups are pulling out all the stops to pressure President Joe Biden to grant clemency to every single federal death row inmate before he leaves office. That’s right – they want him to use his final days to give a free pass to some of the most notorious criminals in recent memory, including the Boston Marathon bomber and the Charleston church shooter. Imagine that.

Hundreds of Democrat-aligned groups are pushing Biden to commute all federal death sentences, claiming the punishment is “abhorrent and outdated.” Their petition to Biden makes the predictable case that the death penalty is “racially biased” and “arbitrary.” Never mind that these cases involve cold-blooded killers who left trails of victims and suffering in their wake. It’s just another example of the left pushing “compassion” for criminals and ignoring justice for victims.
Charles Fain Lehman from the Manhattan Institute couldn’t be clearer on this lunacy, saying that Biden commuting these death sentences on his way out would be “a repudiation of the mandate the American people just gave” by re-electing President Donald Trump. He reminded everyone that “Joe Biden had four years to enact a mass executive clemency. He did not do it.” But now, with time running out, they want him to unleash this preposterous scheme on his way out the door.
And let’s be clear: Trump has the right idea on this issue. He’s made it clear that he believes the death penalty should be used in specific cases like child rapists, drug dealers, and illegal immigrants who commit murder on U.S. soil. In other words, real justice for those who do real harm to society.
The petition also has the usual suspects: Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and the ACLU, all conveniently ignoring the devastation caused by these criminals. Even faith-based groups are piling on, with some Catholic and Episcopal organizations signing on. But how do they square that with the fact that many of these death row inmates are responsible for mass shootings and brutal murders?
Just look at who’s on death row. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the Boston bomber, whose sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court after an appeals court tried to toss it out. Then there’s Dylann Roof, who murdered nine innocent churchgoers in Charleston, South Carolina. These are people who have committed horrendous crimes, and yet left-wing groups are calling for “racial justice and compassion” for them.
And the ACLU’s petition? It skips the nasty details of these inmates’ crimes. Instead, it focuses on “racial justice” and says it’s up to Biden to prevent “irreversible miscarriages of justice.” The irony? These left-wing groups are the ones pushing for a real miscarriage of justice by turning a blind eye to the crimes themselves.
President Biden campaigned on addressing the death penalty and he has one last chance to take meaningful action before Trump assumes office.

While Biden’s office hasn’t responded, there’s one person who isn’t letting this slide: President Trump. If anyone’s going to put justice back on track, it’s Trump. When it comes to protecting Americans from dangerous criminals, Trump doesn’t play political games, and that’s exactly the attitude America wants. Here’s hoping Biden leaves without touching this insane proposal and that Trump is ready to restore sanity to justice once he’s back in the White House.
