A federal judge appointed by Joe Biden may soon let hundreds of illegal aliens go free in the Chicago area. These people were arrested by ICE as part of a major operation to remove criminals from our streets. Now, thanks to pressure from open-borders groups and a judge who seems more interested in helping lawbreakers than protecting citizens, all that hard work could be undone.
Let’s break this down. Back in 2018, ICE agents carried out Operation Keep Safe in Chicago. They arrested over 100 illegal aliens, many with criminal records. These arrests were part of a broader effort to crack down on illegal immigration and remove dangerous individuals from our communities. As a veteran, I know the importance of keeping our country safe, and ICE was doing just that.
But groups like the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC), backed by the ACLU, swooped in to defend the illegal aliens. They claimed ICE broke the law when arresting them, saying the agents didn’t have proper warrants. They turned this into a class-action lawsuit. In 2022, they won a settlement that forced ICE to follow certain procedures when making arrests in Illinois and five nearby states. That agreement expired in May 2025.
Fast forward to today. Under President Trump, ICE has returned to enforcing the law properly. They launched a new operation in September called Operation Midway Blitz. This targeted violent criminal aliens, including gang members and rapists. But the NIJC didn’t like that. They ran back to court, claiming ICE broke the rules of the expired settlement. They want the judge to extend the settlement and punish ICE.
And the judge? Biden appointee Jeffrey Cummings sided with the open-borders crowd. In October, he ruled that ICE violated the settlement—even though it had already expired. He extended it until February 2026 and made its rules apply to ICE agents across the whole country. That’s right—one judge is now telling every ICE agent in America how to do their job.
Now it gets worse. The NIJC claims over 3,000 illegal aliens were arrested in violation of the settlement. They’re pushing for all of them to be released. And Judge Cummings is seriously considering it. He may order ICE to release them under so-called “alternatives to detention,” like ankle monitors or smartphone check-ins. That’s not justice. That’s surrender.
If this judge goes through with it, we’re looking at thousands of illegal aliens—many with criminal pasts—being turned loose in our neighborhoods. All because a Biden-appointed judge thinks ICE was too tough on them.
This is a slap in the face to every law enforcement officer who risks their life to keep us safe. It’s an insult to every veteran who fought to defend this country. And it’s a betrayal of every American citizen who wants secure borders and safe streets.
Let’s not forget what this is really about. The open-borders crowd wants to flood the country with illegal aliens and overwhelm the system. They want to tie the hands of ICE, make it impossible to enforce immigration law, and eventually give citizenship to people who broke our laws to get here. And judges like Cummings are helping them every step of the way.
Thankfully, under President Trump, our federal agencies are fighting back. ICE is doing its job. The Department of Homeland Security is pushing back in court. Congress has already said that judges can’t order mass paroles of illegal aliens. But this fight is far from over.
We need to stay alert. We need to support our ICE agents and law enforcement. And we need to keep the pressure on our leaders to stand up for the rule of law.
This isn’t just about Chicago. It’s about the safety of every American town and city. If we let one judge override immigration law, what’s next? We cannot sit back and watch our country’s security be torn apart in courtrooms run by activist judges and open-borders lawyers. It’s time to draw the line.
