President Biden advocated for “assault weapons” bans, “high capacity” magazine bans, widespread background checks, and other measures in response to Fourth of July weekend gun carnage in several Democrat-controlled cities.
At approximately 2:30 a.m. 30 individuals were shot during a block party in Democratic-controlled Baltimore, according to Breitbart News.
Baltimore, like the rest of Maryland, already enacts several gun control measures, such as a prohibition on “assault weapons,” a restriction on “high capacity” magazines, background checks for everyone, and others.
At least 32 individuals were shot in Democrat Mayor Brandon Johnson’s Chicago through the fourth of July weekend, according to Breitbart News. Three of the gunshot victims perished as a result of their injuries.
Chicago, like the rest of Illinois, has a prohibition on “assault weapons,” a ban on “high capacity” magazines, a 72-hour waiting period before buying a gun, and a need for gun owner certification, among many other restrictions.
The Fourth of July evening saw a shooting in Philadelphia that claimed the lives of four men and a 15-year-old kid. According to Breitbart News, the suspected Philadelphia gunman was a cross-dresser who backed Black Lives Matter, according to a Daily Mail article.
Biden issued a statement in response to the shootings that included the following quote: “It lies within our authority to once more outlaw weapons of mass destruction and magazines with high capacities, to require secure storage of guns, to end gun makers’ exemption from liability, and to implement universal background screenings.” CNBC noted this.
On the day before the Fourth of July, another shooting also took place in Fort Worth, Texas, whose mayor is a Republican. According to the New York Times, the shooters “fired randomly into a crowd,” fatally shooting three individuals.
