Since July, Elon Musk has put more than $276 million behind the fight to keep Congress in Republican hands. No donor in America has done more for the 2026 midterms.
The largest share went to the Senate.
Between July and September, Musk sent $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, the main super PAC defending the Republican Senate majority. It's the kind of commitment that usually takes thousands of donors to match, and Musk made it on his own.
He backed the House with $20 million through the Congressional Leadership Fund, which supports Speaker Mike Johnson's majority. He gave $10 million to the Republican Governors Association and $2 million to the Republican Attorneys General Association.
He also put $10 million into Texas to help Ken Paxton win the open Senate seat against Democrat James Talarico. Democrats haven't won a statewide race in Texas since 1994, and Musk wants to keep it that way.
More than $76 million went to America PAC, the super PAC Musk launched during the 2024 race. Its job is old-fashioned grassroots work: knocking on doors and getting Republican voters who sometimes skip midterms to the polls. Its canvassers are working in seven battleground Senate states and nearly three dozen House districts. "Robust investments have allowed the G.O.P. apparatus to get its message out," said America PAC spokesman Andrew Romeo.
Counting everything since January 2025, Musk has committed about $366 million this cycle, more than the roughly $290 million he spent in 2024 helping voters send Donald Trump back to the White House. He's putting more into protecting Trump's majority in Congress than he put into the presidential race itself.
When he left the administration in May 2025, Musk said he had "done enough" political spending. "If I see a reason to do political spending in the future, I will do it. I do not currently see a reason."
He found one. If Republicans keep the Senate, Trump's judges keep getting confirmed and his agenda keeps moving. If they keep the House, Democrats never get the gavel they'd use to restart the impeachment machine. Musk decided that was worth fighting for.
Democrats are already complaining about billionaire money. This is the party that spent decades depending on George Soros, who poured more than $125 million into a single Democratic super PAC for the 2022 midterms. It cheered Michael Bloomberg when he spent $100 million trying to deliver Florida to Joe Biden. Its fundraising platform, ActBlue, is under federal investigation over foreign donations. Musk puts his name on every dollar and files it with the Federal Election Commission, where anyone can look it up.
He's putting the money where it counts: the Senate majority, the House majority and the governor's mansions.
Elon Musk built SpaceX, Tesla and Starlink by betting on things other people said couldn't be done. Three weeks before Election Day, he has bet $158 million on the Senate.
