64% of ICE Arrests are Criminals — So Much for the 'Deporting Grandmothers' Narrative

Border Czar Tom Homan just dropped a number that should end every single leftist talking point about immigration enforcement in one shot: approximately 64% of ICE apprehensions are people with criminal convictions or pending criminal charges. Nearly two-thirds. But sure, tell us again how ICE is rounding up innocent abuelitas at church.

Funny how the facts never cooperate with the narrative, isn't it?

Homan appeared on Carl Higbie's show "Carl Higbie Frontline" on Newsmax TV and laid out the stats with the kind of bluntness that makes CNN producers reach for the smelling salts. The percentage actually dropped slightly from where it was — "was about 70%," Homan said. "Right now, I think we're about 64%. But you know what? That's a good number."

A good number. Because it means the system is working exactly how it's supposed to work.

You can skip the first minute and 45 seconds where they talk about the UFC event at the White House and the taking out of the Tren de Aragua leader to hear Homan talk about ICE arrests specifically...

Homan clarified exactly what qualifies as a "criminal" in ICE's books, because we all know the left loves to play word games. "The bottom line is, we say a criminal is those who have a criminal conviction or pending criminal charges," he explained. Not jaywalkers. Not people who forgot to signal a lane change. People who committed actual crimes — or are currently charged with committing them — in the United States.

And for those of you keeping score at home, Homan broke the ratio down even further: "60% criminal, 40% non-criminal is a good mix." That 40% non-criminal includes people who violated immigration law itself, which — last time I checked — is still a law. The left just pretends it isn't.

Remember the hysteria? Remember the protest signs? "Families belong together!" "ICE is terrorizing communities!" "They're targeting innocent people!" We were told enforcement was cruel, racist, and indiscriminate. Every cable news panel featured some teary-eyed activist describing how ICE was destroying the lives of peaceful, law-abiding immigrants who just wanted a better life.

Turns out almost two-thirds of the people ICE is picking up are criminals.

Not families. Not dreamers. Not the hardworking dishwasher the left trots out every time someone mentions border security. Criminals. People with convictions. People with pending charges. People who did bad things to other people — often in the very immigrant communities the left claims to care so much about.

This is the part the open-borders crowd never wants to talk about. When you let everyone in and refuse to enforce the law, the people who suffer most are the immigrants already here. They're the ones living next door to the gang members, the drug dealers, the repeat offenders that sanctuary cities refuse to hand over to ICE.

Every criminal alien ICE removes is one fewer predator in an immigrant neighborhood. That's not cruelty. That's protection.

But you'll never hear it framed that way on MSNBC. You'll never see that 64% number on the front page of the New York Times. Because it obliterates the story they've been selling for years — the story that enforcement is about racism and xenophobia rather than public safety.

64%. Remember that number the next time someone tells you ICE is the villain.
