In 2017, the Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI) sued the city of Gary, Indiana, for being a haven for people who are in the country illegally. The case asserted that this policy clearly violated Indiana state law, which prohibits the establishment of sanctuary towns within the state.
A story from John Binder of Breitbart News says that Gary got rid of its strategy of welcoming illegal immigrants last week. 2011 saw the passing of the law that forbids sanctuary policies.
The Indiana Attorney General, Todd Rokita, also said that he would sue Gary officials if the sanctuary city policy wasn’t thrown out. It was against the law for local police to give illegal immigrants caught for local crimes to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers.
IRLI Executive Director Dale Wilcox said, “Indiana has become a great success story for getting rid of dangerous and illegal sanctuary laws.” “When there are state rules against sanctuary policies, state attorneys general can make a huge difference for the better by forcing local governments to follow the law.”
Indiana’s second city, Gary, has gotten rid of its “safe city” rule.
To follow the state’s rule against sanctuary cities, East Chicago, Indiana, leaders got rid of their sanctuary city policy in July. Rokita went to court against East Chicago over the city’s refugee policy.
“To fight back against the crime, overcrowding, and chaos we see in too many towns today, other states need to follow Indiana’s lead,” Wilcox said.
Gary, Indiana used to be a normal middle-class city where most people could live a normal life. But since the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s, many useful white people left the city, and it has become another run-down Rust Belt city. Even worse, the same people who made the rules that almost completely removed all white people from Gary want to keep making rules that are against white people by letting illegal immigrants roam freely in the city.
Thankfully, Republicans in charge at the state level are growing a pair by stopping these crazy policies that are killing society. Red states need to start fighting all kinds of mass movement, whether it’s legal or not, if they want to make things right in this country.
