The far-left progressive modus operandi is to make everything available for all people at all times, regardless of citizenship or any other mitigating factor which may exclude some from certain civic duties.
As a result, the institutions in which progressives successfully push their empathy politics are in complete ruins, including democracy.
We see this clearly with the universities.
Once progressives determined each and every person had the right to attend college regardless of test scores or academic merit, the entire institution of higher education was diluted until an advance degree meant virtually nothing in the real world.
Such is the case in New York City, a once-great U.S. success now struggling to stay afloat.
A far-left city council passed a bill this week that gives noncitizens the right to vote in local elections.
The legislation, known as “Our City, Our Vote,” passed 33-14 amid skepticism from both the mayor and Republicans on the council.
In order to vote, noncitizens must also be legal U.S. residents who have lived in the city for a minimum of 30 days. That means green card holders, DACA holders, and individuals with work permits may soon be able to vote in city elections. There are an estimated 800,000 legal noncitizens in the city.
Republican Council Member Joseph Borelli suggested the bill violates the state constitution and said there should be a constitutional amendment to implement the change. Borelli is the minority leader of the council. He also said it would “weaken” citizens’ votes.
“Someone who has lived here for 30 days will have a say in how we raise our taxes, our debt and long-term pension liabilities,” he said to the failing New York Times .
New York City tends to have low voter turnout in local elections. During the most recent election cycle, in November, the city had a 22% turnout among registered voters.
The question of giving noncitizens the right to vote is being debated in several other cities and states across the United States, including Washington, D.C., and Illinois .
Meanwhile, the Left continues to chide Trump supporters for daring to insist the 2020 election results were rigged in Joe Biden’s favor.
Knowing full well their platform is immensely unpopular with Americans, Democrats are securing their stronghold on power using any means possible.
